Extract from the report on the Senior Competition...

The audience that attended the Senior Speech Trophy Competition was small but enthusiastic and proved to be warmingly responsive to the determined and eloquent speakers. The standard of speeches this year was particularly outstanding and therefore made the task of choosing the winner a markedly difficult one - particularly as there were ten finalists this year instead of the usual eight.

We were happy this year to welcome as chief adj udicator Miss Hendry, Headmistress of Notting Hill and Ealing High School for Girls, assisted by Mr. Behmbcr and Mr. Merett,a member of the Phoenician Society.

...Gerard Nolan, a still young and somewhat nervous speaker, discussing the controversial “The Individual is not important”, proved to be capable of a high standard of speech; he should, however, learn to keep closer to his subject.
